Donkey Derby & Fundraising

The Donkey Derby will be back in 2019 for the 24th year.  We are just waiting for confirmation of the date.

The 23rd Donkey Derby, held on 12 May 2018, was another great success for the group.  Over 3000 people braved the typical early summer weather to enjoy a great afternoon of Donkey racing.  As usual the thrills and spills were all there, with the showers adding to the uncertainty of the results.  Photos of the event can be found on the Daily Echo Website

Our thanks go to everyone who helped out, before, during or after the event and to those companies and individuals who sponsored races or individual donkeys.  A special word of thanks to our main sponsor – Royston Group of Lyndhurst.  If you would like to get involved for the 2019 event please Get In Touch.

Brief History

Eling Sea Scouts’ Donkey Derby has been a favourite of local residents for over 20 years.  The Group had been raising small amounts of money to fund equipment and Scouting activities, but it was realised that a new HQ would be required and we needed a substantial amount of money to finance it. Held  on a Saturday in May on Eling Recreation Ground off the A35 near Rushington Roundabout, the family event is the culmination of a year’s hard work by a small band of fundraisers.  The main attraction is obviously the Donkey Racing; visitors can even have a flutter using a tote system, and there are plenty of slide shows, catering and activities for the family to enjoy.
