Troop Summer Camp

Warrior troop took to the water for their summer camp this year. An hour long ferry ride from Southampton brought them to Cowes – with just time to invest 4 Scouts as the ferry slid down Southampton Water.  The 29 Scouts and 8 leaders quickly settled into the field attached to the Northfield Scout Group HQ, from where they spent a week exploring the Isle of Wight.

Platinum Award for Emily

Congratulations to Emily, from Relentless Explorers, on the award of her Chief Scout's Platinum Award.
Well done to Emily on this great achievement - the result of so much hard work. She has celebrated with a trip to Denmark with other Scouts and Explorers from Hampshire, and a visit to the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden.

Eling at World Scout Jamboree

Lizzie leaving Pax Hill for the Jamboree.

The 22nd World Scout Jamboree is taking place in Rinkaby near Kristianstad in Southern Sweden.  After two years of training and fund-raising Lizzie, one of Eling's Relentless Explorers is now enjoying getting to know some of the 38,000 Scouts and Leaders from around the world.  The Hampshire contingents totalling 130 set off from Pax Hill, former home of Lord Baden-Powell on Sunday 24 July, following a reception in the grounds.   After two days of 'aclimatisation' in nearby Copenhagen the units travelled to the huge site, along with almost 4000 other Scouts from UK.

Also at the Jamboree is our Scout Leader, Flic, who is helping run the Jamboree as part of the 8000 strong International Support Team.

Invincible Patrol Scoops District Camping Competition

Eling Scouts 1st and 3rd

The two Patrols with the Trophy.
CONGRATULATIONS and WELL DONE to the 8 Scouts who represented the troop at the District camping competition last weekend.
You all worked very hard and we are very proud of you!
With only 8 points between the top 3 teams Chris, Emma, Joe and Kitty battled on through a very hot afternoon on a farm at Hordle to win the trophy. The team from Testwood came second, followed very closely by our second Patrol - Michael, Talya, Chris and Anya.

Adam Lallana opens Donkey Derby

Record crowds enjoy the Group's big fund-raising event.(2 Jul 2011)

Adam gets the event udnerway.
SAINTS' STAR ADAM LALLANA joined thousands of people at Eling Rcreation Ground on 2 July for our 16th Donkey Derby. Blessed by perfect weather, the crowds enjoyed all the activites and refreshed themselves with the cream teas. The donkey races provided the usual amusement as they unseated their riders or simply enjoyed the grass on the course rather than trotting for the line. After opening the event, Adam took a break from pre-season training to tour the event and chat with the crowds. The record numbers of almost 3500 brought a welcome boost to the Group's funds, as the building work on the new Aquativity Centre at Testwood entered the next phase.

Donkey Derby preparation

Donkey derby carnival procession
Meanwhile, much of the Group's energy is going into getting ready for the Donkey Derby on Saturday. Lots of Donkey Derby programmes have been sold now at a range of venues over the last few weeks, so we're doing well for bringing some cash in before we start. The site, equipment, tents, food, tombola prizes etc. are all coming together, as a result of a lot of hard work from the organising team.

And now, we've just heard today that Adam Lallana is confirmed as coming along to open the Donkey Derby for us. We're hoping to see lots of Saints fans joining the crowds to watch the donkey racing, enter the tombola, bet on the races, eat the burgers, buy the cakes etc. The weather forecast is looking good, so we're all set for a great day.

Rotary Club help keep us afloat

A generous donation provides two new kayaks for the Group (9 Jun 2011).

One of the new boats on the water!

NEW FOREST ROTARY CLUB have provided the Group with two new kayaks to supplement our fleet. The craft were handed over at Testwood Lakes on 9th June by the Rotary Club Chairman, Tim Richardson (pictured below to the right of the kayak) and other members of the Club. The two kayaks were soon being put to good use by eager members of the Group. Tim said how delighted he was to be able to help youngsters get afloat and learn new skills.
