OUR 17th DONKEY DERBY saw around 4000 people enjoying a fun-filled afternoon, made extra special by the glorious sunshine. Guest of Honour this year was David Sisi, back row forward for London Irish and England Under 20s, ex of Tottonians RFC and a former member of Eling Sea Scouts. David did a great job of opening the event, helping with commentary and meeting the vistors. He also donated a signed shirt which was raffled off to help the Aquativity project funds.

New attractions this year, including "piggy racing" (toy pigs), sand art and a very popular soft play area for toddlers, joined the old favourites such as coconut shy, donkey rides, raffle, refreshments and nail painting.

We must not forget to mention the Donkey Racing - the incredible antics of the mounts - and the efforts of the jockeys to remain seated despite them - kept the crowds amused. Eventual winner was "Rocky Rex" ridden by one of our own Sea Scouts Cameron Barr and owned by Cub Scout, Richard Woodhouse. 2nd was Sea Scout Archie Clarkson and 3rd was Chloe Stanfield - pictured above left.

The success of the day reflected the considerable hard work of the organising team and the numerous other volunteers who made the day such a success. Beautiful weather, and excellent organisation by an extremely dedicated band of too few individuals - a fantastic event enjoyed by all, with potentially record funds raised towards the new Aquativity centre at Testwood Lakes.

Ready to paint!

Intrigued by the pig racing
They are off, in more ways than one.
